Commonly an individual leading more than one person or a group of people is called leader (Lichtenstein& Plowman, 2009). Leader with his specific attributes leads and guides others for certain goals setting examples and creating an environment where members of team are freely involved in the process of achieving the goal (Westaby et al. 2010). However, leader cannot be a boss with authority to only pass the orders but rather committed to carry out the objective or mission. Thus, leadership is also process of influencing others in which an individual can have support of others to complete a task. Organizing and leading people for achieving similar goals requires characteristics and attributes that could contribute to an effective process of leadership (Bezuijen et al. 2010). Different theories have emerged to describe different leadership styles based on individual leadership traits such as behavioral and style theories, situational and contingency theories, and functional theory and transactional and transformational theories. Leadership styles are used to demonstrate the way leadership attributes is used by individual to enhance the effectiveness of leadership (Pless, 2007). Moreover, the study and understanding with particular behavior of leaders is important as it helps to determine the way a leader uses his strengths to drive the team. This paper presents observation and interview of a successful and effective leader Ms. Angelina Leong for assessing her leadership styles, traits, and characteristics and later providing reflection and improvements that observed after this assessment. However, there was little self-efficacy yet intelligence and adjustment were used to lead people at workplace environment. She had approach to take feedbacks and expected people in her environment to initiate for their opinion when there is decision making process or problem solving. In spite of taking everyone’s opinion and suggestions she would decide her own. This shows her intelligence and adjustment level through which she does not only employ her tactics to involve everyone by providing them opportunity to participate as team member but also receives different point of views over a decision and problem. She is always ready to assist or help group member regarding work issues and advise them if required. This helps her to establish a strong relationship with her group members and further provides her with opportunity to understand the problems of others.
She has abeen observed with good skills of observant which enables her to observe team members and other employees to observe in terms of their work proficiency. This attribute of her personality was observed during the discussion and meetings when she would use note to quote persons for telling him or her for their particular behavior at certain situation. Moreover, it also shows her approach to lead the people. She deals with her employees by observing them for their ability and dedication with work. Moreover, she has problem solving approach as she does not simply get angry if a work is not completed on time. She endeavors to find alternative ways to solve the problem which shows her understanding with the importance of problem rather than wasting time. Her approach to guide and motivate everyone in team in order to achieve goals makes her not only a good and effective leader but also a successful leader.
